AnyEXIF is built for offline-first photo metadata workflows. Your photos stay on your device.
Last updated: Jan 28, 2026
Web reader and desktop apps process images locally. We don’t upload your photos.
The browser tool is an EXIF reader only (no batch processing, no editing, no saving).
Windows/macOS apps support batch read, edit, and save—still designed for local processing.
Products covered
This policy covers both the AnyEXIF web EXIF reader and our Windows/macOS desktop products.
- Web EXIF Reader: drag-and-drop/select a single image and view extracted metadata.
- Desktop (Windows/macOS): batch read, edit, and save metadata locally.
Web EXIF Reader: how it works
When you drag-and-drop or select an image on the website, AnyEXIF reads metadata (EXIF/IPTC/XMP when available) directly from the file in your browser.
- We read the file using browser APIs (e.g., FileReader/ArrayBuffer).
- Metadata parsing happens on-device (client-side).
- Your uploaded image is not sent to AnyEXIF servers.
- You can remove the file anytime to clear the current session state.
Desktop (Windows/macOS): how it works
Our desktop apps are built for batch workflows: read metadata from many files, edit fields, and save changes. The core processing is performed locally on your computer.
- Batch read/edit/save happens on-device.
- Images are not uploaded as part of the metadata workflow.
- Distribution: macOS via the Mac App Store; Windows is planned via the Microsoft Store.
- App store providers may collect their own diagnostics, usage, or transaction data according to their policies.
What we collect
For the AnyEXIF web EXIF reader, we do not intentionally collect personal data from your photos.
- No image uploads and no server-side image storage.
- No account identifiers required for the web EXIF reader.
- We use Google Analytics to understand aggregate website traffic and usage.
- We use Google Ads for advertising and conversion measurement.
Note: if you install AnyEXIF desktop apps via the Mac App Store (or, in the future, Microsoft Store), those platforms may process purchase and telemetry information independently of AnyEXIF.
Third-party services
We use a small set of third-party providers to operate and market the website. These providers may process certain data under their own privacy policies.
- Cloudflare: DNS management (and may provide performance/security services). Cloudflare may receive connection metadata (e.g., IP address, user agent) to deliver and protect the site.
- Google Analytics: traffic analytics. It may use cookies or similar technologies depending on configuration and your browser settings.
- Google Ads: advertising and conversion measurement. It may use cookies or similar technologies for ad delivery, reporting, and attribution.
Important: these services do not receive your uploaded local image file. Your photo is read locally in the browser for metadata extraction.
Local storage
We may store small preferences locally in your browser to improve UX.
- Theme preference (dark/light) may be saved in localStorage.
- Uploaded images and extracted metadata are not persisted by default.
Network requests
Viewing your own uploaded image does not require a network request. However, the site may load typical web assets (fonts, scripts) and optional demo images.
- Demo gallery images are hosted on third-party CDNs (e.g., Unsplash) and may involve network requests to those providers.
- These requests do not include your uploaded local image.
- Like most websites, our hosting provider may log basic request data (e.g., IP address) to operate the service.
- When enabled, analytics/ads scripts may make network requests to their providers for measurement and advertising.
Security note
Image metadata can include sensitive fields like GPS coordinates, device serial numbers, and timestamps. AnyEXIF helps you inspect this information so you can make informed sharing decisions.
